Red Hook welcomes visitors with a variety of unique shopping and dining opportunities as well as an exciting array of recreational options. If you’ve never been to Red Hook, we hope you’ll experience first hand the small town charm and neighborliness of this unique waterfront community. Enjoy a day with family and friends or come alone and walk or bike around our “small-town” neighborhood.
Stroll along Van Brunt Street and you’ll find one-of-a-kind stores to browse in such as Tiburon, Foxy & Winston, Erie Basin, and Metal & Thread.
And IF ART IS YOUR PASSION, check out ongoing exhibits at Kentler International Drawing Space, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, Gallery Small, Look North, and the newly opened Gallery Brooklyn and The Intercourse.
FAMILIES will enjoy summertime activities such as exploring the Waterfront Museum, bicycling through the neighborhood, watching a Tuesday night Red Hook Flick, canoeing with the Red Hook Boaters, and afterwards lunching on Mac & Cheese at Hope & Anchor, or satisfying a sweet tooth at baked or Steve’s Key Lime Pies.
You’ll also find many opportunities to ENJOY THE OUTDOORS including an organic farm, inland and waterfront parks, piers (fishing and canoeing), gardens, boardwalks, ball fields (softball, baseball, soccer, and rugby), handball courts, running track, and a pool.
HUNGRY? Our talented local chefs create such delectable dishes as paella, muffuletta, steak and eggs Korean style, scramble, lobster rolls, brick-oven pizza, pulled pork sandwiches, and a Valentino Special, as well as cupcakes, tarts, and swingles.
And seasonally you can enjoy Latin-American food prepared by the noted Red Hook Ballfield Vendors.
THIRSTY? If you’re hankering for an interesting or unusual potent potable, head on over to The Ice House, offering a selection of 60 beers, or to Fort Defiance where divine cocktails are the norm. Or if you want liqueur or wine to-go, peruse the shelves, seek sage advice from those at dry dock or botta di vino.
Of course don’t leave Red Hook without experiencing LIVE MUSIC at one of Red Hook’s rousing Venues: Bait & Tackle (bluegrass), Rocky Sullivan’s (Irish music), Sunny’s (bluegrass/folk & country jam), and Hope & Anchor (Karaoke).
Red Hook’s NONPROFITS offer a variety of activities that not only enrich the lives of our community, but also draw in many outsiders to attend exhibits, theatre, and a farmers market, as well as to participate in activities such as canoeing, dance, drawing, playwriting, and video classes. It’s no surprise to locals that many of the neighborhood’s most popular events, benefits, and celebrations, are hosted by this valued group. The business community and residents alike volunteer resources in
gratitude for this important sector of our community.
